Oat and banana smoothie

This is like a bowl of porridge in smoothie form. Oats fill the belly, bananas are full of potassium, chia seeds have iron and it’s a great recipe to introduce cinnamon (if all other allergens have already been introduced).

RECIPE

  • 2 frozen bananas (you can also use fresh, add half a cup of ice if doing so)
  • ¼ cup of quick oats
  • ¾  cup of milk
  • 2 tsp chia seeds
  • ½ tsp cinnamon

Put all ingredients into the NutriBullet and blend until smooth. You should have a nice, thick consistency that you can spoon the smoothie to feed your baby.

Recipe notes:

  • Dairy allergy? Substitute milk for plant based milk.
  • You could replace one banana with a cup of frozen berries for a berry nice twist.
  • Want the mixture thinner? Add more milk.

  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 banana

OPTIONAL

  • 1 tsp chia seeds
  • ½ tsp cinnamon
  • 2 tsp almond meal

Vegetable puree

Sure, most kids love eating fruit, but how do you get them to eat veggies? With a delicious vegetable puree. By adding in a little fruit, the puree is more palatable for little mouths, while sticking packing a big nutritious punch. This recipe calls for veggies to be steamed first, and then it’s as easy as whizzing all the ingredients together.

RECIPE

  • 2 cups chopped sweet potato
  • ½ cup frozen peas
  • 1 cup chopped apple
  • 1 cup chopped carrot
  • Milk or breastmilk

Add the sweet potato to a steamer and steam for five minutes. Add the chopped carrot and apple, steam for another 10 minutes. Add the frozen peas and steam for another 5 minutes. Let ingredients cool, then empty into your Nutribullet. If the mixture is too thick, thin it out with a little bit of milk or breastmilk. Always check the temperature of the mixture before feeding to your baby.

Recipe notes

  • Once you’ve made this, play around with the ingredients and try different vegetable combinations. Because sweet potato and carrot are ‘sweeter’ vegetables, they’re perfect as a base for introducing more bitter vegetables, like broccoli.

Allergy notes:

  • Milk
